The Furniture Brands You Have Never Heard Of That Are Perfect For Your Modern Mountain Home
The line between outdoor and indoor in our designs is very fine. Inside and outside are not two separate conversations. They are one.
Most of the modern mountain homes we design are built around land, views, existing trees, and natural slopes, and so is the selection of furniture.
Large sliding doors open completely. Covered decks extend the living room. The mountain becomes part of the interior. And when that is the architecture you are working with, the furniture you choose needs to perform in both worlds without suffering.
Most homeowners we work with default to the typical American brands because they simply do not know better options exist. Restoration Hardware is great. We have nothing against it. But there is a whole world out there that most people never get to see unless they are walking the floors at Milan.
These are those brands.
Vondom
Founded in Valencia, Spain, Vondom was built around one mission: vanguard furniture for people who demand quality in everything around them. They collaborate with world-renowned designers including Karim Rashid, Marcel Wanders, and Catalan designer Eugeni Quitllet, who designed the Africa collection. Quitllet's entire philosophy is rooted in one belief: the simplest things are the most original. Clean organic curves, nothing unnecessary, forms that follow the natural shape of the human body.
Their pieces are built from injected polyethylene, UV-resistant, weatherproof, and engineered to live outside permanently. Some pieces are even made from 100% recycled plastic recovered from the Mediterranean Sea as part of their Revolution series.
I was introduced to Vondom through our trusted friends at Eterea A3 in Mexico City, and from the moment I saw the Africa line, I was sold. The Africa Sofa has lived in my outdoor lounge for years, and it looks the same as the day I got it. I cannot recommend this brand enough.
Paola Lenti
Founded in Milan in the 1990s, Paola Lenti was built around a single obsession: textiles. The brand believes fabric is not just a finish but the starting point of the entire design process. Every collection begins with material research, unexpected color combinations, and surfaces that feel as interesting as they look.
Where Vondom is bold and sculptural, Paola Lenti is playful and textile-driven. Colorful, layered, unexpected, their pieces have a warmth and personality that most outdoor brands never achieve because most outdoor brands think about durability first and design second. Paola Lenti thinks about design first.
We discovered the brand in Italy, and we do not use them for complete sets. We use them for specific statement pieces, the chair that stops you in your tracks, the piece that makes the whole outdoor space feel considered and intentional. The Miriade armchair, designed by Estúdio Campana, is that kind of piece. If Restoration Hardware is a full room, Paola Lenti is the one piece everyone asks about.
Ethimo
Ethimo was born in 2009 inside a 14-hectare botanical garden in Lazio, Italy, and you can feel that origin in everything they make. Their name literally means origin. Their entire philosophy draws from Mediterranean culture, natural materials, and the idea that outdoor furniture should feel like it belongs where it is placed, not imposed upon it.
They work with teak, aluminum, and high-performance fiber, collaborating with designers like Matteo Thun, Patrick Norguet, and Christophe Pillet. And they were one of the first outdoor brands in the world to develop a dedicated mountain collection, which tells you everything about how seriously they think about context. Pillet's Grand Life collection is the outdoor living that belongs with that landscape.
For our clients in Colorado, Utah, and the Mountain West, Ethimo fits the natural color palette of the landscape in a way that most outdoor brands simply do not. Earthy, relaxed, grounded. Think Mykonos translated to the Rockies.
Extremis
Extremis was founded in Belgium in 1994 by Dirk Wynants with the clearest mission in the design world: tools for togetherness. Every piece they have ever made is built around one idea: bringing people together. Their guiding principle comes from the Shaker communities: create nothing unless it is both necessary and useful, and if it is, do not hesitate to make it beautiful.
I discovered Extremis at Milan, and it stopped me immediately. Their Gargantua table from 1994 is still in production because it is simply that good. Built in Belgium, engineered to last generations, designed to perform in any outdoor condition without ever losing its integrity.
For a mountain home where large gatherings are part of the lifestyle, Extremis belongs on your deck. Cabrio, a two-seater outdoor sofa, is one of those pieces. These are the pieces you pass down to your kids with good memories attached.
Expormim
Founded in 1960 in Valencia, Spain, Expormim started as a humble wicker exporter and over three generations became one of the most respected furniture brands in the design world. Every piece is still handmade by artisans in their own factory. The craft is passed down from generation to generation. Nothing is outsourced.
Their material is rattan, natural, handwoven, timeless. They collaborate with Norm Architects, Jaime Hayon, and Oscar Tusquets, and the result is furniture that feels quietly luxurious without ever trying too hard.
I have not yet specified Expormim in a project, but after seeing them at Salone del Mobile in 2025, they are absolutely on my radar. In a home with large sliding doors and covered outdoor spaces, their pieces move effortlessly between inside and outside. This one is coming.
