A practice shaped around the way people live.
Studio
A small studio that designs houses around the way people actually live.
HUT is an architecture and interiors practice in Englewood, Colorado. We take on a few houses a year and stay with each one from the first conversation to the last day on site. This page is about who does that work, how decisions get made, and what you can hold us to.
The commission
Four moments in every house.
The whole studio moves through every one. A conversation, a drawing, a review. It goes out and comes back.

The first conversations
We start at your land, or at the house you have now, and we listen. Who lives here, how a weekday moves, what a Sunday looks like, what cannot be lost. Two or three meetings before anything is drawn. You leave with a written brief and a budget range we both believe.
The design
One architect leads the idea and answers for it. You see options, with reasons, and we tell you which one we would build and why. Nothing goes to permit that you have not walked through room by room, in drawings and in a model.
Making it real
The idea has to survive structure, budget and construction. We coordinate the engineers, price the house at three points along the way, and decide the small things early: where the switch goes, how the stair meets the floor, which stone. Architecture and interiors are one practice here, so each of those decisions is made once.
Through the build
HUT designs. A licensed local builder permits and builds. We stay on the job: a site visit every week, the builder's questions answered the same day, and the drawings protected until you have the keys.
