Falcon's Perch & SoulFit: A Lifetime Project

What began as the intention of building two cabins for Airbnb in Hohenwald, Tennessee, soon evolved into something deeper.

Written by Angela D, Interior Designer

What began as the intention of building two cabins for Airbnb soon evolved into something deeper. It transformed into a full-time home and a wellness center in Hohenwald, Tennessee, and ultimately has become a truly special project.

The HUT Company, for me, it’s fascinating.

The Beginning: From Rental Getaway to Personal Cabin

The original vision was simple: to build two cabins—one for residential use and one for rent—along with a wellness center to complete the experience. Over time, the most important consideration shifted to building a main cabin for Amy’s family, in addition to the wellness center.

From the beginning, Amy envisioned a design that conveyed spaciousness, a strong connection to nature, and a modern style with minimalist touches. Her priorities were clear: open social spaces, distinct private areas, and abundant natural light.

A Design for Living and Enjoying

The final design included custom modifications to the Falcon’s Perch Family model, creating a modern mountain cabin with an open-concept social area that seamlessly integrates the living room, dining room, and kitchen.

These main living spaces connect to the outdoors through floor-to-ceiling Marvin windows and sliding glass doors. High ceilings with a scissor truss system were used to enhance the sense of space and allow for the addition of a loft with a full bathroom and flex room.

Changes and Solutions During Construction

While the process was largely straightforward, the team made several thoughtful adjustments along the way. Some of the most notable features added to the design include:

  • A larger loft master bedroom to provide added comfort and capture panoramic views of the surrounding woods.

  • A double-sided fireplace that connects the interior living room with the covered terrace.

  • A strategically located mechanical room positioned next to the powder bathroom.

  • A black facade accented with natural materials for a modern and elegant look.

  • A kitchen styled just as Amy preferred, with a single island and a traditional layout.

  • An extended terrace roof to allow for year-round enjoyment of the double-sided fireplace.

  • An electric-start portable generator, giving the family the ability to live off-grid with their own self-generated energy.

I didn’t know what to expect; I’ve never worked with an architecture firm before.

For Amy, the experience of working with The Hut Company was more personal and collaborative than she had expected.

SoulFit: A Special Project

In addition to the main cabin, we also designed a wellness center with a shed roof, conceived as an intimate, restorative space. Unlike the cabin, this building has its own unique essence, yet it perfectly complements Amy and her husband’s vision for the property—a place where living, business, and wellness merge.

During construction, a koi pond was added as part of The SoulFit landscape design. This thoughtful detail reinforced the project’s connection with nature.

A Future Under Construction

Today, the Falcon's Perch Family and SoulFit represent more than just buildings; they embody the start of a lifelong project. Amy and her family now have a modern, efficient, and welcoming home, as well as a space designed to host visitors and offer a peaceful retreat in a natural setting.

This was more than the construction of cabins. It was the creation of a future where architecture, nature, and lifestyle intertwine.

And that was beyond what I had anticipated, and it was just fascinating to see what you all came up with from my little drawing that I sent you a picture of.
