Set along the shores of Ozark Lake, this custom home was envisioned as the long-term residence for John, a fiction writer, his wife, and their family.
The design balances contemplation and connection, solitude and togetherness.
The living room opens fully toward the lake, transforming the view into the focal point of the space.
Expansive floor-to-ceiling bookshelves reflect John’s lifelong relationship with reading and writing. Designed for quiet moments and shared conversations, this room invites both reflection and connection with the surrounding landscape.
Main Level
The main level organizes the daily and social life of the home. Four bedrooms, each with its own full bathroom, provide comfort and privacy for family members and guests alike.
A dedicated reading room reinforces the introspective character of the house, while the kitchen and living room, positioned side by side, encourage constant interaction.
A great room with a fireplace and uninterrupted lake views serves as the home’s central gathering space, seamlessly connecting to both upper and lower decks that extend living outward.
The kitchen was designed as an active, social environment where cooking becomes part of daily interaction. Its direct relationship to the living room and outdoor decks allows interior life to flow naturally outside, supporting long meals, informal gatherings, and shared moments overlooking the lake.
Both upper and lower decks structure the home’s relationship with the lake.
From the exterior, the rear facade expands opennly into a horizontal volumen reinforcing the idea of a residence that rests gently on the land while fully embracing its surroundings. Each level offers a distinct way to experience the landscape.
The primary bedroom is oriented directly toward the lake, offering uninterrupted views from sunrise to sunset. Conceived as a private retreat, this space allows the rhythm of the natural environment to frame the beginning and end of each day.
Basement Level
The lower level expands the home’s range of activities. A workshop, gym, and family room coexist with a dedicated movie room designed for relaxed evenings with family and friends.
The deck at this level maintains a continuous connection to the outdoors and the lakeside setting.
The garage is expressed as a clear, functional volume visible from the driveway. More than a service space, it acts as a transition between arrival and the interior experience, maintaining material and architectural continuity with the rest of the home.
